Sounded sorta like "Laurel" but I found it difficult to decipher.

But I don't hear very well - what was that you said?

Laurel at first. No matter how hard I tried I could not hear Yanny.

Then after thirty minutes or so I tried again and was surprised to hear Yanny. I could no longer hear Laurel.

Extracting the audio and adjusting pitch I can hear either.

Raising the pitch about 15% I can hear Laurel.

Lowering the pitch about 15% I can hear Yanny.

When I played this video for the first time today I heard Laurel, but a few minutes later I watched it again and I heard Yanny. I replayed the video a few times after that and I still heard Yanny. So I'm gonna say Yanny for me.

years ago I heard "Lawrul". Hmmmmmm. :)

Here you can here both, by adjustment. I mostly hear Laurel. What does Yanny even mean?

I hear Yanny. But I'd much prefer to hear Yanni the gorgeous Greek pianist

Lars, on the link you gave, if I start the meter at the very left side of the scale, I only hear Laurel, right up to the mid point. But when I move the meter exactly between dead center, and the first notch to the right, I hear a perfect blend of Laurel and Yanny. Then, as I move the meter along the right, I begin to hear Yanny more (well, actually I hear "Yammy") and then only that, as I slide the meter to the right.

I hear yarry gary, yarry gary

I thought it sounded like yammy too. My husband says Gary. 😜

I heard yammy on the right side of my link also, and I do not think that is a word either. Can someone please use yammy or yanny in a sentence? If not, it has no meaning, unless it is someone's name. Laurel, OTH, is a common word.

I wouldn't doubt that the audio mix itself was designed to be a yanny. Or maybe not.

A yanny is a word or phrase that is capable of distracting the entire internet for at least 24 hours. When you "drop a yanny," you start a contentious debate on some type of public forum.

    From: https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/yanny

That definition came into being because of this contention. Otherwise, yanny is not a word and was invented just to annoy people.

    😂😂😂

^So it was invented just to annoy people.

I thought of Yanny & Laurel as proper names so did not consider them to be words. Yanny because of the musician Yanni but the spelling makes me think it more of a nickname. (And, yes, I know 'laurel' is a 'word' outside of being a name, too.)
