Yes, you could stain it or you can have brick colored pavers set next to it to add some color.

Here's a closer look, it's quite rough and I don't like the swirl pattern. It's about 8 months old now, just seeing what ideas someone might have!

It would cost some bucks, but you could get it covered with bluestone or slate.

There is a cement or wood deck recovering paint that comes in multiple colors. Goes on thick and has a nice finish covering flaws etc... It may cover the swirl pattern. Available at Lowes.

Forget the door threshold, look at where the bottom of the siding is - there's no room to overlay stone or brick or probably even tile. There are two options that could work for your situation, and both would make your "swirl" issue go away. One is to go with a company that does epoxy-type coatings. That would give you a narrow range of looks. There are also companies that do what is essentially a super-thin concrete overlay, available in a wide range of colors and styles. One of my clients had an old-world cobblestone look done to his sidewalk, and while I was initially skeptical it actually looks quite good.

Decorative concrete overlay... thin as Revolutionary Gardens recommends... or for a "green" touch, use a soy-based "acid" stain wash but polish the walkway first to tone down the swirls?

grinding and polishing concrete is definitely do-able. I don't think the machine will get all the way to the corner though. It's basically the same thing as a wood floor sander, but it uses diamond pads and is water cooled. You could do that and then stain it. garagejournal.com is a forum with a lot of people doing similar stuff to their garage floors.
