Contour or flat grids?

last modified: 5 years ago

My colonial style house currently has all flat grids on the top and bottom sashes of the windows. I have replaced 6 out of the 24 windows of my home. I am switching to just grids on the top with no grids on the bottom sash. Would you stick with flat grids to match the rest of the home in this transition period? Or would you start changing them out to all contour grids starting with these 6 windows? (The 6 windows are now 5 windows - 2 quarter rounds, 2 double hung, and a picture window - see pic with flat grids). I'm so used to flat grids, will I like the contour?

I've read that 99% of windows are ordered in contour - is this true?

Sidenote: these are newly installed windows pictured - contractor made many errors - suppose to have no grids in the bottom sash and all contour grids. Please advise.

After these windows are completed, I'll be replacing the windows in two more stages - hopefully 8 in stage 2, then the remaining 10 windows in stage 3 - but who knows when that will be.

Thank you in advance for any advice.
