Backsplash to ceiling or not?

I need backsplash for my condo and was thinking of doing two walls up to the ceiling because I have the stove on one wall and the sink on the other. But...I have 3 upper cabinets and they don't go to the ceiling..should I stop before the ceiling? if so where, keep in mind I have a weird corner where the two walls meet. Also my island is dark navy and I have not put in pendants over island yet. Counters and cabinets are both white. I have a pantry door you can't see next to the window wall which is also navy. It is one large room for kitchen/dining/living so you will see that window all all the time. I want to keep it simple but not plain white tile, thinking long thin subway stacked to give it a contemporary feel. Thanks for your help everyone!

Maybe up to the ceiling behind the stove / hood and then just to the bottom of the window on the sink wall and a pretty false roman shade on the window is some accent colors.

Thanks Patricia. So don't tile over the cabinets on that wall just strait up over the stove? I agree on the roman shade!

Looks new. I wood spend additional funds now while cabs are available and get additional matching top cabinets, perhaps with glass fronts, to reach the ceiling, I count 3. Add crown/moulding to the very top. Adds storage for seldom used but want items, makes the kitchen look custom and different from all the other condos, adds class and style as well as function. Solves the tile issue. To the top on both walls. Whether modern or classic keep it simple and no fads. Your condo will stand out when time to sell.

I think to get cabinets to fit there will need to be custom and so you will need to decide on that

    Beautiful kitchen!

I think I'd do all the way to the ceiling and above the cabs on those two walls. I would not do side splashes at all on either wall - just the main walls with sink and range.

I know I’m in the minority when it comes to questions of extent of tiling. Back splashes are meant to protect walls, so going to the ceiling would not be my choice. I’d go up to the bottom of the vent hood, and stop at that same height on the sink wall. No side splash tiling. Good luck with your project.

I would do a beautiful tile to the ceiling on both walls - no side walls. That would look amazing!!

So many great comments! Thank you all. I did think of adding cabinets (which I should have done) but I think it would too much money. If I did just the walls and not the side walls won't that look sort of choppy because I will have that large white corner between the walls?

absolutely NOT all the way to the ceiling. your cabinets do not go all the way (which is a mistake all in itself but it is what it is) so because of that, your backsplash cannot go all the way to ceiling. it simply looks silly, and will accentuate all that white empty space above your cabinet. your backsplash should stop where your cabinets do. you can hang up some wall decor if you do not want to leave it blank.

OR, simply just do backsplash for the space underneath the cabinets.

I would tile all the way up and invest in the additional upper cabinets while you are able to match them. I like the the look of tile all the way up to the ceiling. I just wish I had taken the cabinets all the way up but my ceilings are like 12 ft so I wouldn't be able to reach. I would tile the corner you are worried about also. Maybe tile first, leave that part blank, and if you think it needs to be tiled then tile it.
