Master Bath Layout Help

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi There, we are in final stages of our home design and are a little stuck on the master bath design. the bath size is 9’ 1” x 13’ 2”, and can not be expanded without taking space from the other bedrooms. Ideally we would have the tub and picture window on the wall opppsite the entry door so it is featured. We can also move the entry door.

if anybody has any other ideas for this space any input would be greatly appreciate! Swapping the sink area for tub area makes our counter length a little shorter than desired since that would be the obvious solve. Thanks!

edit update, I’ve attached another layout idea. Please feel free to critique it!

Why waste space with a toilet room these IMO are just silly . No one should be using the toilet while someone else is in the bathroom. I see no measurements of the vanity for instance but from this drawing there is no space for a free standing tub either . You need a min. of 12” all around the tub for just basic cleaning and IMO visually you need at least double that or more. I would suggest nice deep saoker tub much easier to get in and out of too. This is a decent sized bathrooom but needs some tweaking to get right. I do not like that linen cuboard on that wall it is not balanced nicely .The closet will feel vert tight when you put a 2’ deep hanging section and a 1’ deep shelf you will only have less than 3 ‘ for aisle space I do nor think you need a door there so utilize the wall to the right of the doorway for dresser type storage and make the shelves to the left as shallow as possible for shoes and a nice cabinets above the dresser for accessories I think a tub needs to be where it is but not free standing and widen the vanity to accomodate linen stoage in it, make the shower a bit smaller so you have nice walkway to the vanity and make that window above the vanoty more like a transom to allow for a whole wall of mirror. Eliminating the toilet room would aslo allow for a much wider entry that will give this a more lux feel

I'd suggest moving the door. I personally don't want to be in bed and looking into my bathroom. Inevitably that door you think will remain shut all the time will not. Perhaps switch the door and toilet locations.

I would also suggest lengthening the vanity and building a linen tower in between the two sinks.

I would keep the enclosed toilet, but consider a pocket door to save space because your wouldn't need to have clearance for a standard door.

I would not put linen over the toilet unless you want it contaminated every time that you flush.

In a bathroom this size, I would not have a tub and instead have a larger shower.

The proposed shower looks small. So, if the tub stays and you add a pocket door on the toilet, you could shift the bathroom entry door to the right and expand your shower.

That’s a great idea Patrick on the toilet room having a pocket door. By shrinking the space needed it opens up a few options. Very stressful trying not to mess this up!

I agree with bpath's suggestion to swap the locations of the shower and the door. Keep the toilet closet; it's considered an upgrade.
