Nighstands Needed SOS

I recently moved to a condo that is more contemporary looking even though it’s a 1974 condo and I’m trying to update my bedroom. I eventually want to replace the bed, but I’m not going to at the moment but I do need nightstands. Found some that I like but it seems like the wood matches the floor or they have too much pattern on the front. I don’t know how to meld styles!!! I don’t want white coastal night stands- I want to be transitioning into a more modern look. Waiting for a duvet to be delivered and I uploaded a picture of that too. Thank you so much!!

Not sure how far from traditional you can go with that bed and sorry but the new bedding is IMO not modern at all more country if anything I think some very simple night tables like this with those lamps would work but if possible retune the bedding. Then move on to the dresser someting lower wider and fewr drawers that can actually be useable. I might paint the bed black add some black and white bedding with the white night tablea and dresser .

I was understanding youwanted to go in a more modern style but keep the bed so IMO this would be a better choice wuith painting the bed black and that walls a darker gray would IMO accomplish that more modern look.

I think your nightstands suit your bed and new bedding and until you change the bed, I’d hold off on nightstands, as they won’t make a big difference and you will also be restricted with bed choice in having to match nightstands.

If you want room to start feeling more modern, suggest different bedding and accessories

Hi, Betsy, what is your budget? Can you post pics of the ones you like? Why do you want to replace the current ones — because of the style, or because of size/color/etc? It’ll help with suggestions. :)

In the meantime, this is a modern one I think mixes well with your existing elements, but I’m not sure if you like gold ...

Thank you so much your suggestions. I have two golden retrievers, so that light colored won’t work for me. I am going to rethink my duvet cover choice-old habits die hard. The bed I like is black rod iron canopy type. It would interfere with that ceiling fan now, so I have to figure out what to do with that. I love those nightstands Jinx and I think I’m going to order them. Far as budget it’s low- I have done a lot since I moved in in September and I really want to spend as little as I can. Just ordered a new sectional for my living room that I am totally in love with it’s in cobalt blue velvet. That’s another challenge because I’m trying to update my look in my dining room to match. It’s so hard to meld old stuff from an old house to a new place in news

Love that sofa! I think your rooms look very nice and work well together while you do the updating you want. :)

Betsy, I don’t know if you’ve looked up the nightstand yet, but I just blew up a view of the drawers open, and see that they’re like this. I’m not sure how you feel about that. I wish there were more reviews of it, there is one very good review, but I’d like to see more. Anyway, I’d feel awful if you got it and didn’t like it. I just wanted you to look at it very closely before deciding. If you decide “no”, there are other similar ones out there. :)

I don’t think those nightstand suit your present bed and new bedding and probably not a black iron canopy bed. I’d step back before you purchase anything more and have a plan. Look at inspiration pictures and define what you love and the components and If you really want nightstands ASAP, decide what will work best with the look you are trying to achieve with your eventual new bed.

We had two English setters and I kept a coverlet on top of the duvet which was easily washed and use darker layering if you think it will still be a problem

How high is your ceiling? A wrought iron canopy bed will likely be crowded in with your fan/light and low ceiling. It may not look like what you envision once you get it into a small space. You should do some serious measuring before buying. Agree, your bedding is not taking you in the right direction either. You say the budget is low, but your dreams won't come cheap. Is your chaise sofa reversible?

Thanks Jinx for checking that out. I did look it up and I found it in a couple different places- it’s currently in my Wayfair cart. I’ve been painting a brick wall in my living room though and I haven’t bought anything or I had a chance to keep looking. No worries-you’re only suggesting- I’m making the final choice.

Maureen-I am in love with that bad! Good idea about the coverlet I hadn’t really thought about that but that would allow me to go in a different direction with a duvet cover.

Decoenthusiate- my bedroom, not counting a little hall in the master bath, is 14 x 16 with 8 foot ceiling -not very tall. Yes-agree even though I love that bad I’d have to switch out the ceiling fan which I haven’t been here long enough to know if I’m ever going to use it. The sofa is not reversible. Believe me-I know dreams aren’t cheap- I’ve already redone three bathrooms in this place🥺 and not even my dream bathrooms. Lol
It is hard moving to a place that has a more contemporary look or feel and trying to make old furniture work. I know MCM should be what I’m putting in here but I don’t really like it.

On a good note-I have made a lot of progress. I know I’m making an error though in making decisions on a case by case basis instead of having like this total look that I’m trying to get because I guess I don’t know what that look is. I know and I like it when I see it. 🥺

I guess I am overwhelmed by the amount of work and of course trying to stay on a budget. (Poor teacher lol)

Good note at least all my floors are done❤️

Aww, you’re doing great! I can only imagine the stress you’ve been under as a teacher. ❤️

Your last comment seemed revealing. I think you should take a step back and think about what you really like and what makes you feel comfortable and happy, what you want to be surrounded with. Most of your choices seem to be more transitional or traditional in nature.

I don't think you should force yourself to buy MCM things, just because the condo itself is more boxy and modern looking.

Thanks Jinx-it has been quite a year but I’m lucky to have fabulous kids which makes my job easy it’s just a sad year because they’re missing out on so much. Nancy- you are right and I have been looking through pictures of living rooms and bedrooms trying to even figure out what I want. I do want to really love each piece that I buy and not just buy it because it goes together. Thanks for all your help everybody!!!

Patricia consulting- thank you -you are absolutely right about my choice of the duvets!! I actually this morning moved a couple pictures up over my bed and I realized that I should probably go with more like a solid green color so I ordered that with some white euro pillows and a black throw. I think it’s going to change the whole look and I think I’m going to be able to keep this bed for a while. Funny how one thing can set you in a different direction -I think this is going to work. Fingers crossed!!

Good decision; room will look great and now you don’t have to worry about the master. Good luck with all of your projects.
