I made a quilt for my godson when he was about three years old, and it was on his bed, obviously well used, when we visited for his high school graduation. That felt really good.

My niece had a baby boy in 1996 and of course, a quilt was made for him. A few years later, as a toddler, it was nap time and he was looking for his quilt. His mom said it was in the laundry. He went and got it and took his nap. A grandson, a tall built like a football player guy, would always pull out his baby quilt when he didn't feel well and wrap it around his shoulders the best he could. That continued until well after high school. lol No pictures.

My mother passed away in hospice care in 2017. During her brief stay, she was draped in a beautiful handmade quilt. A few weeks later, I called the administrator of the program and asked her if I could make a special quilt for the patients in their tender care. She was very pleased, and explained that they really needed quilts for male patients with more masculine colors, themes, etc, and she called these quilts "Celebration of Life" quilts. I made this quilt in honor of my mother and embroidered a label for it as well.

Last January, my father-in-law entered the same hospice unit. Immediately upon learning of his status, my sister, who lives close to my inlaws, made a trip to the unit and requested my quilt for him. My brother-in-law, who was there with him, said it gave him comfort to see his dad

warmed under the quilt I had made. Still brings tears to my eyes.

Not a tear jerker but I made a scrap quilt as an anniversary quilt for a family member. They thanked me and as expected I never heard anything more about the quilt. UNTIL some years later I was at a wedding and chatting with a freind of that couple. Friend said she really enjoyed seeing the quilt I had made. Upon questioning her I found out the quilt was always kept folded at the end of bed and used every day!

My story is not a tear jerker either, but it's my favorite. I made an I spy quilt for my late spouse's great-granddaughter. I showed her how to play I Spy with her quilt and she took it up immediately. She had such fun. She would jump on the spot with the requested charm and giggle with glee.

My stepson later told me how much she loved her quilt and would request it immediately when was at their house. He didn't let her take it to her mom's house as he enjoyed watching her play with it (they have joint custody).

All are so lovely! I think most ppl enjoy getting a handmade quilt. Honestly, I cant ever remember anyone saying anything but positive things about quilts I have gifted. They warm the body and heart alike 🙂

I'm enjoying everyone's stories! I gave a quilt to a friend whose husband was battling cancer in 2018. She told me whenever he sat down in his chair, he would cover with the quilt. I didn't realize cancer patients are often cold. He passed away the day after Thanksgiving last month. The brown border doesn't look like a good fit int he picture, but there is a brown stripe in the block. And by accident, it matched their living room colors.

And recently a friend's daughter is going through a very hard divorce, involving felonies and other issues. All of us put together a goodie basket for the daughter. I gave a quilt. Later when my friend was talking to her daughter, the daughter said she was wrapped up in the quilt. It may me feel good to know something was giving her a hug. It was a strip quilt with Valentine fabric. Sorry I can't find a pic right now.
