Hi Michelle - I’m having a little trouble understanding the question. I think you are saying that the picture taken outside is the home you are building, that the interior construction photo is the inside of the great room, that the stained brown door is the exterior door that will be in the great room, and that you are trying to choose a door style and color for the interior doors in the room. Correct??

If so, and the stained door is visible when you are in the room, I would choose a door that mimics the shape and style of the interior side of the stained door. I can’t say I’m crazy about either of the options shown. The arch in the middle door seems pretty formal, and the six panel is pretty traditional. But if these are the only option I think I’d choose the middle one because it’s simpler.

As for the paint vs stain question, I think it depends on your plan for the interior. My recommendation would be to match it to the interior trim color.

Are you doing this whole thing on your own?? That IS tough. Do you have a plan yet for how you want the interior to look in terms of style and color?

Luckily, the cabinet guy is fantastic and gave me good ideas. Since it is so beautiful outside, I am doing a Sherman Williams white a snowbound color in great room and using the color pamphlet to pick other rooms hues of beige, light grey, and silver. The cabinets will be navy blue and brown with white quartz countertop with a vein probably stock a few pretty ones. We used marble shower counter and sinks in bath with white and a bit of veining. We had a barndominium kit from the northwest, so no big decisions on layout because already done. Cedar stains were hardest decisions. The prolux stain guy helped me with this and we had samples. The build guys have made some neat suggestions on a accent wood wall like a shiplap around fireplace and tin in cupola.

Ok that’s really helpful. Just to be clear, I’m not a pro :). But based in on your description and the photos, if the great room will be white, I think very simple stained trim for your baseboards and door frames makes sense. Stained to match the existing door and with 90 degree edges (hope that makes sense). Like a 1x4 or something - not any sort of traditional molding. That will echo the beautiful beams you have and show the trim against your white walls.

a barn home...see DC BUILDERS usually horses underneath or farm animals. New trend..we chose a garage as we have a barn already.

The first time I heard the term "barndominium" was on Fixer Upper, where Chip and Joe renovated an old barn into a residence. Call it what you will, it's a barn converted to living spaces for humans as opposed to animals. Not really new, it's been a trend for about 40 or 50 years now.
