Ranch cottage kitchen addition.

This 1000 sq. ft. crawl-space house is on 1/4 acre corner lot with a water view. I have a large backyard, lush and tropical with oak trees. The current kitchen-living room is cramped. I want to bump out and put the kitchen in the backyard. My present kitchen will become a dining area with French doors that open to the enclosed backyard kitchen. A deck on the E. side with a BBQ. I'm a professional SeaChef. In my home, I don't like cooking, facing a wall, with my guests behind me. I'll put an induction cooktop on the center island. Install recessed white cabinets, and I want to fit a 4x4 chopping block somewhere in the design. The appliance alcove on the E. side of the old kitchen will become a service area with a wine cooler, coffee area, and possibly a microwave, warming drawers, small sink.

What's the question. Get an architec is the answer, no matter the question. That is the FIRST thing you do, and at the same time the architect and you and the professional independent kitchen designer all collaborate. With the builder and your budget which I hope is about 200 grand.

At 1000 square feet, you may be better off with a tear down and do over.

That will be big $$$$$ so yes you need an architect to make this work and IMO too a KD not a cabinrt salesperson. and not your architect .This is a small house so you need to be careful when adding on to not overwhelm what is already there. BTW this is akitchen in a really small house that was 600sq ft on the main floor and 1/2 storey above . I am a chef too and ran a catering biz from that kichen and never found it was too much kitchen for a small house. It took a lot of planning to get it o work with the house and to also be functional.
