Nothing wrong with beautiful wood and natural stone. What’s your favorite color? Would you like the kitchen more if it had more of your personality in it? Like.. a color you love, a wall paper that speaks to you, a rug to tie it all together or something displayed in those open shelves that gives you joy. Make it yours and it will feel better to you.

@Heather R I was hoping for more of a tan/brown counter but instead there is some sort of yellowish vibe to my kitchen. I don’t like what the color of counters and cupboards do for each other. I want some was to distract from it or cancel it out. And I’m think the suggestions of black accents might do that

I think you need some cabinet hardware ASAP -- pick pulls/knows in oil-rubbed bronze, it pairs beautifully with hickory and will add a dark element that you desperately need need.

I think it is a beautiful room. White cabinets and grey counters are already boring and dated. Live with it and enjoy.

You could consider graphite hardware instead of black or bronze. Amerock rochdale is one line. The graphite is very pretty with hickory.

I agree with OP, it does look dated. At a minimum - paint the cabinets white (e.g BM cloud white would go with counters). Then need a white backsplash - simple subway tile. The wall color has to go also. I think that would fix the look. If you can change the floors i would but fix the rest first and see how it looks

I don't see it as dated, I see it as not finished -- missing hardware, accessories, finishing touches that will bring it all together. Including new wall paint -- it really does not look good and that is a quick, easy fix. The cabinets themselves are beautiful -- you will totally sh*t up those cabinets if you paint them IMO.

Agree with those who think you can make your space attractive with relatively small touches- get rid of the low granite splash and put in a simple light-colored tile backsplash....add hardware, lighting and accessories. Are your choices this year’s trend? No- and that’s ok. I wouldn’t say dated. Don’t beat yourself up- you picked things you like and the final product will be lovely.

Its a brand new kitchen. It has to be right. The OP has to love it, at least like it and he/she does not. Few minor touches will not change the appearance. Its off - the counter does not coordinate with the cabinets nor the wall paint. I have been in this exact situation before having picked a very similar granite countertop. These kinds of countertops end up dictating the entire pallet of the kitchen there’s no way around it. I do not know what the overall style of the rest of the house is. The cheaper fix overall would Be replacing your granite counters to something that matches the rest of the style.

On a new day, I see it anew -- I would trade with you in a minute -- but the white outlet covers are the worst of it. 4" is fine.

If you chose the ceiling light, you did fine. Simple shapes/ textures, even the grass item in farther room is what you need: transitional style, Beth's leather chair if you like.

I would keep the backsplash around your window the same height as the cabinets, i.e. not to the top of your window.

I would love to replace my new counters but my husband won’t allow it and I don’t really want to spend the extra 4-5 grand unfortunately. 😩. Also I chose that brown color to help pull the browns out of the counter. What color would you go with ?

I tore out my nonmatching backsplash and removed that 4” granite lip as well, and installed a new white subway tile (1k). Then repainted my kitchen cabinets (1500$).

My husband unfortunately is having a hard time with the idea of fixing either cupboards or counters because he is a man lol and does not see an issue and is only focussed on the fact that we just spent so much money on everything so he wants to keep as is. Sigh. What paint color would you recommend to help what I’m working with

yes I do. While adjusting to the room -what's needed to live in the kitchen? you need knobs, etc...a decision not impacted I think by whatever backsplash is there...

Add island pendants in modern style. Replace light over sink. The hardware above that's dark is super pretty! If you tile your wall don't keep the 4"backsplash you have now. Paint- I'd go soft white. Don't do backsplash at all until you get that far. Your lighting and paint will affect your choices. There are some really good pros on here with backsplash help.

I’d like to jump in with the fact your kitchen is fine. It’s brand new so don’t bother replacing perfectly good granite counters, you’d be flushing money away. I also like the hickory cabinets, lovely color. Concentrate, as others have said, about hardware, lighting, textiles, changing outlet covers, etc. Frankly if you do put in a new backsplash I’d go all the way up to the ceiling all around your kitchen cabinets. That, imo, would be striking. There’s many houzzers on here who can help you with tile choices. ~D

You will get used to your new kitchen and enjoy it. It’s pretty!

I think with some adjustments your kitchen can look more modern. A few options are staining or painting the lower cabinets a contrasting stain or color to give the space depth, richness and excitement because it’s just shades of brown and tan from the floor to the cabinets and the walls. Next removing to 4” piece of granite going up the wall and installing a nice backsplash going up to the cabinets and all the way around the window. The wall color is a bit drab you need a wall color that’s going to brighten and refresh this area although your backsplash can help with that some. Lastly, I’d do use matte black or carbon finishes for the cabinet pulls, and lighting.

@Level Up Thanks for the advice! I know some people say my paint should be changed but I could really use some suggestions. I used brown to try to pull the tan out of the counter instead of that yellowish Tone the cabinets kind of cast on it.

These colors would lighten and brighten your kitchen and add a subtle warmth but still neutral enough for your countertops I probably wouldn’t do the sea salt but the others are a great start. I have the accessible beige in my living room, dining room and part of my kitchen it plays well with both warm and cooler tones.

I think your cabinets are unique and that’s a good thing😀. I think agreeable gray would be nice on the walls. I would leave the counters you just put them in. Take off the backsplash and do some handmade looking tile. And hardware that’s funky add some plants and I think it will be very nice.

Definitely paint the walls a creamy (not yellowy) white. Try White Dove (Ben Moore).
Agree to take of that 4” backsplash ...and add some textured subway tile in white or white shades to being out the whites/creams in your granite. If you are not going to paint the cabinets...lighten up as much as you can on the walls with tile. Todays kitchens are light and bright (you don’t have to go pure white). Your new cabinets are beautiful ...I would paint though😬

Paint color- at a minimum find an online color consultant who can steer you in the right direction. It is relatively inexpensive and will give you a lot more confidence. Jacob Owens is a solid choice, watch his you tube videos.

What I am hearing is that the counters and cabinet colors are “fixed elements” that cannot be changed. In that case keep everything as is, and find a paint color that can bring it all together. I would not throw good money on top of bad money. Either change the entire look to make it one cohesive look OR just change the wall paint. Trying to “spruce it up” with minor touches will just lead to more hodgepodge that leaves you unhappy. “Learn to live with your decisions” as someone insinuated in an earlier post is a valid option.

Paint the cabinets, add knobs & pulls, remove the 4 l high backsplash & select a neutral backsplash to de emphasize the browns in the countertop.

I felt the same way when we built our home. I loved each piece I selected separately, but when it all came together I felt it looked dated. I lived with it... and 6 years later I like it much more. I still would love to paint my cream cabinets white...
your kitchen is beautiful. You might just need more time to adjutant the change. Btw, if you went with gray counters, it would look dated within a year! You have a classic, timeless look. Natural wood has made a comeback!

Your kitchen is pretty... and practical. Follow the excellent and relatively inexpensive suggestions made by Beth H and others and you will likely be pleased with results, especially after living with everything for a while. Also, white cabinets seem like a poor choice with young children, independently of the time and effort involved in painting them and the near certainty that you will never achieve a factory quality finish. Enjoy your adorable little daughter- she is far more important than the cabinets!

It’s very good choices and not going to be a trendy fad. It will last. Put in a darker floor when u get a chance and Beth H got it going on w/ your backsplash idea for sure and you can move that tile piece you have up as accent. Finance sense. Recessed lighting is my choice because of keeping those pendants clean, and it’s more visually clean. I like stools without backs. Best for sliding in and out of, best to reach bar if your not gonna sit. Also doesn’t block your hallway and fill up space too much. Plus
