I don't care for that shade of green. I like the door color better than the green.

Paint the shutters same or darker shade of door. Side of garage could use some plants to breakup the large stark white wall. Leave the garage door white. So many people paint it and just stands out and becomes the focal point. Since the door and shutters are focal points you could go with drama colour.

If you really love your orange door, go with burnt orange shutters. They are easy to change if you get tired of them. Get some of those bushes with the orange berries and when they are in season it will be gorgeous, or go safe and paint the door green.

Maybe a more true green would be better. Or you can paint the shutters a nice brown and keep the orange door and also paint the garage door brown. Pull it together,.

The green and the orange are horrendous neither work , I would paint the front door , shutters and garage door a richer grey then the roof tiles and bright colors with flower beds and landscaping

I like the orange, maybe another coat in more of a burnt orange. No shutters on the house at all. I would, however, paint the window muntins the same color as the front door.

Most importantly, repaint the garage door in white, but a matte finish. Right now it is so shiny that it screams vinyl and not solid wood.



To determine if your shutters are sized properly, pretend you want to close them. Would they cover all the glass and meet to latch close? If not, wrong size….which yours are.

Which is okay with me, ‘cause I like ranches without shutters. : > ).

Then a bit of landscaping on the garage side.

What about keeping the shutters the same color as the door?

If not, how about a slate grey?

If your budget permits, swapping the garage door for something more traditional/craftsman style it might just blow you away. It looks like your garage door accounts for a great percentage of your home's curb appeal and it looks to "blank" you might want to try something with windows on the top panel:

Even though I am not a person who is into orange anything, I am a blue and green person, if you love that color I still believe it can work. Don't let people talk you into grey shutters or something totally conventional if you would enjoy a little color.

Also, I would not try to blend the shutters in with the front door. If you like orange then leave the orange on the front door as a focal point, which is the area of your home that should be calling for an "invitation" and trying to carry out that same color across the house will lose that effect. Your front door should always be unique, focally centered in it's own style just make sure that the color you choose for the shutter doesn't clash or compete with the front door. Remember that the front door is the entrance to your home's soul. Judy has a great point too, paint the garage door if you can't change it and make it flat so that it doesn't "cheapen" the look of your home. At this point, your garage door should harmonize with the house not shine and scream out for attention because as it is, it doesn't have anything special about it and it is killing your cute orange door....

Just fund this cutie and both orange and green are used…but again, no shutters.

Thank you so much, all of you!! So many great suggestions, I really appreciate it. FUNNY ENOUGH, the photo of the small white house/gray roof/orange door/green trim that Judyg posted is the exact inspiration photo I was using to try to minic, but that green color that I ended up with (on the shutters) is NOT the right one at all. Any thoughts on the actual color of green (in the inspiration photo below) in a Benjamin Moore/Sherwin Williams/other company paint color, because I really thought I was matching it well with what I chose. (Totally not!!)...

We tried taking off our shutters and were going to paint the trim the green color, but the white siding is so worn and dirty behind the shutters that it just isn't an option for us...we just moved into this home and have lots of 'must' repairs, so the siding is not something we can change right now...so painting the accents to improve the look is our next best option!

The landscaping will be changing, too. We are taking out the evergreens and have had a landscaping company come up with a nice layout for better curb appeal.

Also, I'm glad Dynamic Garage Door and Judyg suggested trying to better the garage door...it does account for lots of curb appeal, and that's not something I ever considered would better the look (so simple, but never thought of it!)...

Also, I'm definitely a blue girl like Joan, but every house on our block has a blue hue, so I really wanted to avoid that color. And we would do the gray, as Warren suggested, but we live in a cookie cutter neighborhood, and there is a house in the exact same spot on the next block over that has white siding/gray roof/gray shutters.

Lots of considerations, and I'm trying to make our house look as different from the other houses in the neighborhood, without spending a ton of money (at this point). Kind of a quick fix until we can get the must fix items chnaged out (and paid for!).

What color green is this gray-green in the inspiration pic (below)???

erin, what a lovely response to all the suggestions posted.

I do have a suggestion. Take off the shutters and power wash your siding with oxygen bleach. It is safe for the environment and will make your siding look like new.

If you like the colors keep them. It's your home. I would put lots of plants under both windows. I have a ranch in California and we use drought tolerant plants to give it that modern look. Most ranch homes seem more modern than traditional. Especially ones with orange doors. Anyhow, on the side of the garage make a bed with tall, medium and small plants in the front row. This will unify both front and side. Put a tall streamlined plant under the porch light. It will give the house symmetry. And there you go, with all the green plants, the green shutters will blend in. I'm thinking of painting my Crestview door orange also.
