I wouldn't worry so much about the bumps, but the brown groove is concerning. To test for Bacterial Wilt, cut of a piece of stem and put it in water. If a milky substance is seen, that would confirm B.W. Unfortunately, there's not much to be done about it.

Not clear what exactly is "dying". Everything in the pictures look pretty green and erect. Is the foliage browning or wilting? But bacterial wilt, or stem rot (which may be either bacterial or fungal), is indeed a possibility for that brown ridge. That being said, if nothing is actually dying, I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

The OP does say that they are wilting. If they wilt during the day and revive overnight, that's another indication.

You could check around the soil line. Sometimes there can be a problem there, and building up the soil around the base of the stem can allow the plant to put out new roots.

That's true. Really not clear that the wilting has anything to do with the bumps or the brown streak though. Loads of reasons for tomatoes to wilt.

I am deeply into a research project. Perhaps your answer to the following question may be helpful. Do you make your own compost from this and that and kitchen scraps? If so, have you worked your compost into the soils where you are growing tomatoes?

The bumps are common and completely normal. They’re root primordia.

It might be Tomato Fruitworms.
