I've seen that too on some of my white spruce.

But generally speaking, spruce or fir epicormic branches are low on the trunk and shaded by the above branches and any adjacent shrubs/trees surrounding them and will not perform as well as the upper branches that are in full sun.

The result is they will never compete with the established branches, at least not enough to restore a nice shape or form to the tree.

Cunninghamia or Sequoia or Sequoiadendron can be cut to any height and will bud from old wood all along the trunk (or stump). Wollemia buds from old wood, as well.

Ya, trees that get more than 50 meters tall don't count. :-))

i also see it where they butcher trees at power line height ...

and dont get me wrong... they ought to be removed.. not butchered.. imo ...

i dont care if you love your tree or not .. who are you to take away the power of the thousands of people down the line in that ice/snow/wind storm ...

if the line trimmers ever show up ... most often ... they will agree to remove the tree in toto if you ask ... saving you gobs of money ... they tend to figure.. its a good investment as they will never have to deal with this tree again ...

Yes, the derogatory comment with a very personalized attack on a longtime GW member appears to have been removed by Houzz admin. Not altogether surprising, since it was in clear violation of Houzz Terms of Usage.
