Theresa, your quilt is absolutely lovely. What a great way to use those big, bold fabrics. And I love your border. I don't understand what you mean about using a 7" square though.

With a square, ( any size, mine is 7”) just snowball two opposite corners. Then tilt the block with the free corners going north and south. Creates the diagonal setting.

It's beautiful! They look like jewels. Amazing it came from leftovers.

Now I’ve got it, Theresa. What a clever trick. Less sewing, and you end up with leftover HSTs that are a useable size. Did you devise that method yourself? I see that I have to look at a pattern more closely before I try to make it. There may be an easier way than I see at first glance.

Lois, I found one made that way. But I can’t find it now. Grrr!

The difference with yours is that your blocks are narrower.

i just did a search and can’t find it. Why didn’t I save it??

What I can remember is that the snowball square is one half plus one quarter inch the size of the square. Confused? For my 7 in. sq. the snowballs measured 3 1/2 plus 1/4 in. or 3 3/4. But I also made a few samples just to make sure they joined nicely.

I will keep looking.

So I did save it. The pattern is called Fat Quarter Fancy. And I was right about the size of the snowballs.
