Would like to comment I know it’s on the tight side to be applying crazy detailed wood work but my heart is saying this will look so good and really want to do something that will be eye catching in the entrance

"Board and batten"? Are you sure you are using the right terminology? Can you provide an image of the kind of thing you are looking for?

I chose the second design, given it will have to continue up the stairs and think it might work the best.

"Board & batten" is an exterior finish technique on buildings where boards are installed vertically beside each other and battens are installed to cover the butt joints between the boards. What you are inquiring about is what I would call "architectural paneling".

I would do panelling only to waist or shoulder height. That won't overwhelm your small space or the budget. Something like this:

I sort of don't get this. The panelling is very classical -- I think of it in 19th century buildings and the like -- and rather formal. Will that fit with the feeling/style of the rest of your house?

I like the first one as it gives the illusion of a taller wall.

acm I’m not going for that look at all. I am no design expert but I think that with the right furnishings, rug, and railing it could look more transitional which is our style
