Linear Diffuser Placement on Ceiling

Our latest design challenge in our one-story modern home build relates to placement of the linear diffuser supply vents in our great room. Due to the architects positioning of the trusses in the ceiling, we are somewhat limited in the positioning of the vents.

Here is a picture of the room with general placement of the various spaces (i.e., living, dining, kitchen).

Here are 2 placement options. If we want to have the linear diffusers parallel to the TV wall on the right side, we need to go with multiple smaller diffusers.

This is what our builder and his designer are suggesting. Notice that the LD on the right side of the room is out of alignment with the lights, sliding door and TV/Fireplace wall to the right?

This is a possible alternative we are exploring. Using 2 smaller LDs positioned between the trusses close to and parallel with the TV/Fireplace wall.

I don’t think it is really going to matter. I think you might be overthinking it. The only thing I wonder about is the vent over the island. Is it going to interrupt any planned pendants, etc.

@doc5md, thanks for your comment. We are making sure that any LD placement avoids lights, pendants, etc. I will post a picture once they are installed and after everything is finished up.

We had the HVAC engineer out to the property yesterday afternoon. He recommended and we’ve decided to go with the smaller LDs close to and parallel to the TV/Fireplace wall (on the right). For performance and availability reasons, it will likely be qty 3 18 inch LDs with 2 slots each.

In the other areas of the room we’ll be using 2 slot 36 inch or 48 inch LDs.

After looking at a lot of pictures on Houzz and elsewhere we’ve decided we like the placement closer to the walls as well. The only exception will be the LD near the kitchen island which is needed for kitchen and center of the room air flow.
