Furnishing a lake cottage and need help getting started with the dining room. So far the room is empty and I’d like to start by getting a rug.

The DR and family room are open to each other. I have purchased the main furnishings of the family room already, and would now like to start on the DR. I want to make sure that the two rooms complement each other.

So far I have no decor plan for the DR, other than wanting it to flow well with the FR. I’ve been looking at rugs, but don’t feel confident that I can choose one that will go well with the one in the family room without some advice.

Following is a mood board of items I’ve purchased for the FR. The chairs aren’t exact but close enough (we chose a swivel glider in a denim fabric). This rug was a splurge for me, I’ve had my eye on it for a long time. It’s from Annie Selke and I love it. My issue is that I can’t afford to buy another one, and need to find something more budget-friendly for the dining room.

Any tips on types of rugs that would work will with this one would be appreciated.
