questions about kitchen cabinets

last modified: 5 years ago

Im still on the fence because I keep finding inconsistencies about information. Initially, we were thinking Kraftmaid bc thats what everyone says. One local kitchen design place says that their Kraftmaid is the Vantage and is all-wood. However, HomeDepot says that their Kraftmaid is also all plywood and the Vantage is all about the service and a few other minor differences. I see Vantage mentions a few differences at this link but its not clear how important those differences are (and whether they are worth the price tag).

However, in another thread, someone says that only Vantage is all wood construction. So does HomeDepot offer all-wood or not??

Our local kitchen designer is a Shiloh rep and tells us that (Vantage or not), Shiloh is better because it is made by them and has a lot more customization for cheaper (and is all-wood construction to the same extent that Kraftmaid Vantage is). Is that true or not? The customization part seems to be true from what I have read in other discussions.

Lastly, does anyone know what Cabinetworks Group’s Vanguard of Ohio is? It was mentioned here but I cant find much info:

It seems like most people are in the same boat as me, but some of these questions are still not clear to me about the differences.

My overall impression/takeaways so far:

Kraftmaid:

solid construction

not as much customization

blotchy finish bc its outsourced

mass-produced

over-rated (especially Vantage)

more expensive than shiloh $$$

Shiloh:

solid construction (not clear if its EXACTLY the same construction in terms of all-wood)

customizable

finish process is in-house and more consistent

cheaper

a few complaints about cabinets not being square
