What is the thought behind putting the cooktop on the opposite side of the island as the main sink? It seems like someone would have to do a lot of walking around with their hands full when using this kitchen.

Note where the range is also on the corner. I wonder where the otehr appliances are: refrigerator, microwave? It is a cumbersome 'triangle' to say the least.

The microwave is under the counter next to the corner prep sink
The fridge appears to be at the end of the room facing the microwave and prep-sink - and the ovens are behind where the photographer stood for this photo.

I agree - an extremely awkward layout for any cooking more involved than opening a box and microwaving it.

The kitchen was designed specifically so that clients, who enjoy cooking together, could both access the cook top from either side or both sides at once. The triangle is actually incredibly efficient if you take a look at the previous picture you can see that the fridge is directly opposite the microwave and the double ovens are behind the photographer. It made sense to have a prep. sink at the island in addition to the main sink so that multiple people could prepare meals simultaneously. The microwave is under the counter for aesthetic reasons and because they do not use it very often. While the layout might not work for everybody, the homeowners have been very happy with the functionality of the kitchen. One of the many reasons to hire an architect. Your kitchen should fit your lifestyle.

Also a good reason to hire a kitchen designer or an interior designer, wouldn't you say?
