I don’t think the blue striped one reads “Country”. I think it’s more versatile & goes with many styles. Have to say that I have a very similar red striped runner on my dining table that I swap out with same one with black stripes. My home isn’t Country at all - traditional or transitional With lots of darker oak woods & strong colors of reds, golds, black touches But light color quartz counters & light backsplash.

I do love that one! Its light but still has the blue in it to go with the picture! Debating between the two of them!

if you can only get one, go with the one you like best!

Just opinion that your art has a soft look ? and doesn't matter but to me a soft pattern might be as good. With striped- what's your dinnerware like?

You can find wood chairs like this, secondhand, all over the place. 10-20 bucks each. paint them like you did the table, and recover the seats (you'd need the ones w/wood or wicker backs). I've recovered seats like this and it's not difficult. get the fabric at hobby lobby w/the 40% of coupon!

which one do we like?! personally I'm leaning toward the blue!

Of the two, I prefer the blue on that table.

Really tough call. Blue flows with all the blue accents in adjacent room & art & the texture adds interest & is a more casual look.. Black pulls in over table light & chair legs & any blue table decor with pop more against it. Is keeping both an option so you can swap out?

I like the blue (last image). And, wow...I want to echo some comments by others...I take my hat off to you and your bravery to paint your new table. As I read through the comments while you were trying to decide whether or not to paint it, I was thinking, "Don't do it! Don't do it!!"

But then you did it... and it looks absolutely fantastic, and really does change the whole look of the room. Congratulations!

I actually would not add any more colors to the room. The art is your pop! Add something to the table and be done with it.

IMO, sheer white curtains are too light & dainty for your dining area off the kitchen. If you don’t need drapes for privacy or warmth or sun block, I’d take rod down & leave curtainless. Your slider is framed out with wood trim so maybe not too”cold” looking. If you do need some kind of window covering, maybe an at ceiling height blind or Roman shade would work. Because of width of slider and for more versatility you might need two blinds on a single header so you could have the blind down over the non sliding section if needed while the open slider section is uncovered For door access.

Really nice start in there, however the cabinets look very dated compared to everything else updated, that's why it looks "off" to you. I would either reface the cabinets with new door fronts without the arch or if that's not in the budget I would 100% paint the cabinets, I would paint a deep navy (more forgiving when self painted than white) You could potentially stain them another color like a walnut but I like the idea of colored cabinets better. I would change out the dining chairs as well or the lighter chair covers you posted were great also. the runners and rugs are all great ideas BUT imo the kitchen will look "unfinished" until you do something about the dated orange cabinets, and they desperately need updated handle hardware also (but not too modern bc they are an arch door front). I would also remove the solo set of upper cabinets on the right of the sink completely and install open shelving right there. But definitely those cabinets need to be refaced by a professional or painted so the whole room can come together, great start though!

Beth H., I did read the comments as many as i could get through I am pretty sure i got through them all but may have missed a few but i made it a point to read through first and saw OP said wasn't looking to paint the cabinets. OP added shiplap which while looks nice still doesn't make kitchen look finished as the dated cabinets stand out even more without being painted. OP has done beautiful updates but to me (and prob to OP bc that's why advice is being sought) the kitchen doesn't look right still. IMO the kitchen will never look right till the cabinets are painted a new hardware and I suggested open shelving instead of the solo cabinet box to right of the sink.. OP was asking for advice, I chimed in and gave my opinion. Hope that's ok with you! Just answering a post and giving my 2cents, because it was asked for on an open forum!

jillian,,What I meant was, we've already tried to persuade to paint. she doesn't want to (for diff reasons) Again, if you'd have read through all of the comments, you would have seen what everyone has offered (and her reactions to them) We've already gone over open shelving, hardware, lighting, refacing, pendants, etc. No need to beat a dead horse when there are plenty of other posts that need your help.

Of course it's ok to comment, but,,,,having another comment w/the same song and telling her it's "never going to look right unless it's painted" is unnecessary and a little harsh. She asked for help 2 months ago, and got it.

She was very excited about doing her table, getting the chair covers and some of the other things. She's done a nice job. I've commented on this post since the beginning, so I got to understand what she wanted.

Beth H has been incredibly helpful during this whole process. I LOVE the updates to my kitchen and dining area. I get it, oak cabinets aren't for everyone and the next person to live in this home may want to paint them which is fine but we decided not to. The home has gorgeous orange oak floors throughout (see photos) and the oak cabinets just seemed to pair nicely with them!
It is still a work in process. The off white paint Aesthetic white has also completely changed the space and I love it. Next on our list is to find window treatments, and to get a rug for under the table but everyone that had visited since our changes has been completely Impressed! Thank you Beth H and all of the other houzers for helping me create what I wanted.

I think the only thing I would do is put two or three floating shelves to finish cabinets at the end where the peninsula is.

I like the oak cabinets, and your updates look great. Unlike for others, the open wall space between the last cabinet and window doesn't scream at me, especially with the plant on the counter. It looks serene, uncluttered, and slightly stark in a good way that complements the vibe in the room and the art on the other wall.

After the passing of my in-laws, my husband and I took on the task of updating/ fixing up their 1965 back split for resale. The place had the same orange-yellow oak hardwood throughout. Throughout my life, I have been notoriously bad at selecting the “right” paint colours for our home. Getting this place ready for Market was going to be a big job and I wanted to get it right. The paint store people suggested a light grey for the walls...sought after by home buyers, apparently, but after much hemming and hawing, I decided on plain old white. The results were stunning! The contrast between the floors and the bright, crisp clean white was beautiful, and the place sold quickly. I can see the same beautiful contrast in the photos you’ve posted. Great job!

Your updates look great! This is the first I've seen the relation to your stairs, so now it makes sense why you'd want to keep the cabinet finish the way it was. I agree! Are you thinking a rug with blue and red to tie in your painting? Subtle tho, not a focal point splash of color. I know last time I asked a monkey jumped on my back and shot me down but I'm curious how it'll look so I'm sticking my neck out again. I've also envisioned your drapes as bright white with navy geometric or trellis shapes... I'm not a designer but that's what I would do (bring the red down to floor with blue, let the blue go up high). Congrats on achieving what you wanted, this looks great!

I have been following this reno for awhile and love what you've done! I too have oak cabinets that I actually prefer to painted ones. What flooring and countertops did you end up going with?
