Sold house in CT. Certainly no energy audit. City not informed until house closed and sale needed to be recorded by city clerk.

I have never heard of a city that requires you to bring a house up to new energy standards when it as sold, as long as it complies with the standards that existed when it was built, and there are no unpermitted modifications.

However, I guess they might require a seller to assess and disclose the energy standard compliance when offering a property for sale. This gives the buyer the information needed to make a better decision. I have also heard anecdotal stories about lenders requiring certain changes to houses after problems were identified by a very aggressive appraiser.
