Can anyone offer assistance with this question? We're purchasing Simpson 3/4 light double front entry doors in wood (a set of two doors, each 30" wide for the total front entry opening of 60") and need to decide between TDL (true divided light) and SDL (simulated divided light). We'll be painting the doors a blue on the outside and a white on the inside. We understand the differences between TDL and SDL construction. We're considering the possible energy/insulating benefit of SDL, particularly since we're purchasing 3/4 light entry doors. Limiting places for air to seep through the doors could be good. We're also considering our possible esthetic preference for TDL -- I love the faceted appearance that is theoretically achievable with TDL as opposed to the flatter, uniform reflection that may result from a single sheet of glass with grilles imposed on it (SDL). In case it's relevant, we just replaced our home's windows with Anderson 400 TDL. I'm just not sure I want to go the TDL route with the front entry doors given factors including the better energy efficiency SDL entry doors. There's also a longer warranty for the SDL option and it's of course less expensive. I've looked into the difference between how the spacer bar between the glass in the SDL option will look versus how the TDL doors look. Anyone have first hand experience with how 3/4 light SDL doors look versus TDL? Would we regret choosing SDL because of the possible esthetic concession, or will we not even notice?
