Guess one of the evergreen Rhododendron species (not azalea):

Looks more like Magnolia grandiflora to me. But presumably parent tree is somewhere in vicinity - what larger, fruiting sized examples of similar plants have you seen around there?

hmmm. when I was researching the name leucothoe Fontanesiana, which y'all guessed was my groundcover in a separate post, it said that it was associated with Rhododendron maximum, which made me research that. So my guess on this pretty little tree would either be that, like bengz6westmd suggested, or Magnolia grandiflora likeEmbothrium suggested. I also once had a florida anise on this property far away from this little guy, and which died several years ago, but maybe a bird planted a seed for me before it died?

Stem and bud features - which look like those of the magnolia to me - will indicate what it is.
