If you add anything to your plantation shutters. I would pick something elegant but timeless. A fabric valence (maybe a neutral linen) or high curtains. Though I think the shutters alone are pretty, esp in FL

Appreciate your interest and input everdebz. When searching for chandeliers, most of the ones I gravitate towards are described as transitional or contemporary.

How does this lighting fixture look with the fussy shades removed?

I tried it Amanda but the candlesticks are too high, so am looking at other options. In my idea book I mocked up this area with SW Alabaster (using SW Color Snap app) and added a chandelier, mirror and console table.

I used SW Shoji White but the colors on screen are rarely accurate. Definitely test in the actual space before committing. Here's the same color in kitchen...

Thanks er612. My husband liked the color! Yes, we will be trying a few options. We have used the same color paint in Florida and up north with very different results because of the intensity of the light in FL (IMO).

I like this look....a little bit of Old World flavor without overdoing it. You may be able to go even whiter with paint color for a more crisp look. Your kitchen is nice and bright... not Old World at all. I would consider those white chandelier shades for the kitchen... you may be able to salvage that chandelier. Worth a try.

Yes, Amanda Smith, keeping a tad of that Old World flavor keeps hubby happy. Because of all the input from everyone, he now agrees that lighter is better (and no longer a fan of the existing color). A big thanks to everyone who has provided suggestions!!

Thinking about your space...I’m also in Florida, in the Fort Lauderdale area. Housing styles can be very Mediterranean- looking (based on Florida’s history). Lots of beautiful historic properties have that style (thinking of Palm Beach). No need to toss everything, in my opinion. Just integrate the look with some updates....The main thing is wall color, so you have less of an Olive Garden look.

Also, Palm Beach style....incorporates Old World style and lots of happy color.
