Get an interior designer. You are building a home, you have another thread. If you want quality goods, a home that flows, one that suits you, your tastes, your lifestyle, your needs? Want less stress, and want to avoid the mistakes of every possible variety? THAT is the best investment you shall ever make. Like ASAP. Before this house is so much as framed.

"Stores" The best are to the trade design centers, in mid to large cities. ....................your answers will not be "online" . They will be none you mentioned, and that is fact. A high end brick and mortar can work, but you still need the design skill - or your furniture will be sourced from ONE place, and the amount of design you will receive for the "bones" of your home will be ZERO.

Get an interior designer who has a great kitchen and bath designer in her back pocket. They along with you and your builder are your TEAM.. There is no better route. A team is the usual behind any online photo, you shall drool over, 99% of the time..........: )

Thank you for your suggestions! I too would advise someone building a home to elicit a designer. I'm fortunate to have a lengthy background in design and building. My parents build high end homes, my mom is a designer and I too have built and remodeled beautiful homes! Essentially, I'm specifically looking for recommendations for strictly eco friendly furniture from others. The stores I mentioned are an example of what I don't want! I do know there are many eco friendly furniture companies out there and was hoping to narrow this down by word of mouth suggestions... from real people! As a way of hearing what companies other folks really like. Thank you!

Also consider high-end furniture resellers. Much of the furniture made in earlier times is built better than the throw-away now available. You can always reupholster vintage furniture to fit your color schemes--and have much more flexibility in fabric than buying new.

I think you may want to try to find smaller local manufacturers, like a DR Dimes for traditional chairs in the Northeast. It's often easier to find high-quality sustainable furniture from smaller manufacturers.

I also have a few high-end pieces I've purchased second-hand. My dining room furniture is Kindel and it was made in Michigan about 30 years ago. I actually bought the chairs first as I fell absolutely in love with them, and then found the Winterthur table almost by accident. I also have some vintage bedroom furniture from Georgetown Galleries from the 1940s and a Berkey & Gay burl walnut empire buffet that I've converted to my TV stand. My house is a Tudor though so having a few older pieces mixed in fits the style.

Some of the other high-end brands like Karges, Hickory Chair, and Baker are still going to make their pieces in the US if you do buy new.

To get an idea of your budget, what do you consider a good price range for a sofa?

If you want a minimal ecological impact, choose gently used furniture from a high end reseller. In my area, the charity that benefits the local hospital sells donated furniture, some of the wood furniture is quite good quality.

We went to Lazyboy not for a big overstuffed recliner but a very nice sectional we bough about five years ago and more recently a leather couch for den. They have free design service where someone comes out and gives advice and we are very happy with our American made round sectional. The cushions are very comfortable and the material easy to clean. We ordered our leather couch several months ago but everything nowadays is slow.

I think you couldn’t be more eco friendly than buying previously owned furniture. Consignment shops are one way to go. Older furniture is made better than most of what is out there now Plus I love the thrill of the hunt
