I would wait. Don’t panic. I would wait to see if they start stretching by the weight from hanging. I would also try gently tugging them.

I know not drapes, but I find even when I hang dry my cotton tops, the fibers tighten.I do a quick stretch as I pull it on.

I’m hoping it will be the same concept for you.

Susan, you brought memories back to when I was a kid and my mother would launder the triple pleat drapes in our 3500 sf rambling ranch with walls of windows in every room. The entire home had matching drapes. Each panel was laundered, laid on large towels, covered with another layer of towels and gently rolled to remove excess water, but not wrinkle the fabric. They were then laid out on a blocking board and pinned into place to dry. A steam iron was used to loosen any wrinkles that were not stretched out. They were checked and stretched and re-blocked throughout the drying process.

I would check with a top notch cleaner and see if they can stretch and re-block the drapes.

Do you know what the fabric is and if they are lined?

If they are not lined you could try to stretch them yourself by immersing them into warm water with some fabric softener added. Joanne's sells interlocking blocking squares. I would probably buy a piece of plywood and glue the interlocking squares onto a solid backing.

What's the fiber content? Have they been dry cleaned before the last time? The easiest thing to do is wait a few weeks. Or you can change how they are clipped to the rings.

If they don't seem to stretch after being hung for a few weeks you can either change how they are attached at the top as others have suggested, add trim at the bottom as others have suggested, but also at the sides so as to look as though this was planned ab initio, or lower your curtain rod.

That's why I preshrink the fabric before making drapes. Even then I still make them extra long.

Is there a hem you can let down, use larger clips or lower rod (as the worse case scenario).

Just steam them, they will lengthen to original length.

But be sure to raise holyhell with the dry cleaner!!
