I bought all my Minka Aire fans as an open box item. They have been working fine for the last 18 months.

I would be more worried about a missing part...like someone bought it for a spare to fix theirs, and returned it. I've seen that happen and what a pain to deal with.

It depends on the savings between a brand new and an open box. It also depends on the item and our knowledge of what that item may need.

When I called the company I was purchasing the fans from they stated that the fan was gone through completely and was brand new. The box was opened and returned. I suppose you could get one that a small part isn't there. For a savings of $150 on each on I was willing to take that chance. I needed 3 fans.

I bought an open box light fixture from PB. The light shorted out - no doubt why it was returned. It shorted the circuit. I had to hire an electrician to come fix everything. Never again.

I would pay me for a lighting fixture. An open box may be missing some parts which will cost you more to rectify.

Shola - Hi! As quoted, and mentioned above, the boxes are supposedly checked for missing parts. I also check to make sure al parts are there, and no glass is broken. I did order a big outdoor lantern that had a couple of missing screws. Picked them up at Lowe's. So far, so good. And lighting fixtures typically will work...I hope!

My concern this time is the motor in a ceiling fan not working. No way to check that until hooking it up to electricity. My fear is that it has happened and the product returned without an explanation to the company of the fact that the fan does not work. It's checked for missing parts and sent out again. Should we get one that is not in working order, it can be returned within 60 days. However, my lighting and fans will not be hung before that. It's a risk, for sure!!! I'll have to think on this decision some more. :-)

I bought 3 Minka Aire fans through the LP open box site about 4 years ago. They have worked perfectly ever since. I just bought another one that has been installed and also seems to be working perfectly although we're not in the house yet.

I had an entire house of lighting to purchase a few years ago and included some open box items with no problems. I too have Minka Aire fans.

Depends on who from. I bought TONS of fixtures through Amazon Warehouse. If it wasn't as described I could return them.

I just did so this week for my dining room chandelier. I had been looking at it through Lamps Plus, but knew it would be a pain to return...and costly. I saw it on Amazon Prime and knew that if I did not like, I could return it easily, not even have to pack it back up, and could ship it back for free. I ordered the chandelier and it arrived 3 days later. It's a keeper!!!

I paid $200.00 for a $600.00 Bosh dishwasher that had been installed and returned to Lowe's because it didn't have heated drying which is obsolete technology anyway. It worked perfectly for years. If you're into 66% discounts on perfectly fine new stuff, buy the open box please.

I placed an order. Already missed out on one Open Box fan, but was able to get two at the OB discount. Plus ordered one more at standard price, along with some downrods.

I purchased all of my lighting and plumbing fixtures open box. Except for one light. The single brand new light was the only one that was missing a part lol! I did return one plumbing fixture because it had a scratch but all the others had all their parts.(They called them open box but they were really just discontinuing our plumbing fixtures maybe that’s the case with the fans?)

Interesting theory. Maybe so for some items. As for the outdoor fan type (needed two) that I purchased, one was an open box, and the other was listed full price.

One lantern light I bought was $25 instead of over $100. It arrived with one of the 4 panes of glass broken. I went into a local glass shop thinking 4 new panes might not be too much money and they had the same exact glass. It cost me $7.50 for 1. Still a great deal!

I too am wondering about this because I am thinking about ordering a Minka Aire open box fan from Wayfair. (I have never ordered anything from Wayfair). To me the issue is that if I am paying someone to come to install it and there is a part missing, then I am going to be out more money for an extra installation trip. I need to say that I have bought plenty of other things from the scratch and dent or open box departments. Electronics like this just make me have second thoughts though. Wayfair says all these items have been inspected, but how in the world would that poorly paid and under-informed person in the returns department have any idea at all if there are parts missing?

In your situation I would by new then. but even new fixtures dont cover labor costs if they are missing something

Can you return an open box item if it is missing parts or damaged? If so, then it is worth it.
