Porch - Railing or No Railing

We are finally updating the outside of our house. We had hope to extend the roof line to cover the porch but it is not within our budget. We are going to put an awning over the porch instead. My question is railing or no railing?

The first picture is our house and the second picture is the inspiration for the awning. We do plan on going with a black/gray roof, white gutters and trim with gray siding. The front and side doors will be black. The awning will also be gray and white.

is your front door on the end on the long side of the house? A railing would delineate the actual entrance. do you have to change the roof right away? That's a big expense and you could use that money for several smaller projects, like a porch railing.

The front door is the one with the wreath on it, next to the large picture window. We are not extending the roof line because its not within budget and we have other projects we need to do.

I love your inspo pics , very exciting upgrade! Local building codes will dictate whether or not you are required railings, for safety. My guess is that you would need them but I suggest you call to make sure. :)
