Not really specific to northern VA, but there are a number of mail order nurseries that will ship very nice trees of various sizes/ages. Four winds is one that is located in california and will ship, they have two sizes, the entry level which can be larger or smaller, and the premium which sometimes comes of fruit bearing age. I have personally done business with them several times. I have also heard that logees is a good option as well. Others on here may have their own suggestions.

Seems their selection is a bit less than it used to be.

There are no tropical suppliers in the northern VA area. Closest is a grower in the Norfolk area. Mail order is about the only game, unless you want basics which HD and Lowes carry a few of. If you're willing to do special order, you might check with a local nursery (like Meadow Farms). They have done special orders, but I have never tried a citrus from them.

Welcome to Northern VA! As Ken says, places like Home Depot, etc. may carry the basic Key lime, Meyer lemon, and calamondin some years. If you know where Merrifield Nursery is, they can carry maybe a few different varieties, but they are fairly pricey. What varieties are you interested in?

I would certainly consider mail order. Consider Brite Leaf, Harris Citrus Nursery, Four Winds Growers (heck, even Logees has some interesting varieties, although plants are quite small).

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I knew of Four Winds but the others are new to me, I'll check them out. Does anyone know what rootstocks BriteLeaf, Logees, and Edible Landscaping use? I'll look at Home Depot and Costco too.

Dave, varieties: Page and Xie Shan Mandarin, Moro blood orange, Yuzus, Kaffir/Makrut lime, tbd lemons, tbd pummelos. If there's local budwood around I'm all ears!
