Building a new entry on Firehouse

We are purchasing a 1929 decommissioned fire station to convert into our home. We would like to create a new entry on the front of the building instead of using the side entry. There is an existing room, the fire chief's office, that will become the entryway/mudroom. We are having trouble figuring out how to make this entry feel as though it has always been a part of the building, while still being a showstopper.

Not the only picture, but the window to the left of the main doors is the office that will become an entry. The main floor will be open concept kitchen, living, dining space. This is a view from the current side entry, office front left. It's a wide angle to fit everything, so please excuse the distortion.

What a cool project. I don't have any ideas for you but wanted to let you know that I think it is amazing to save this old building.

Great building. Find a good, local architect, preferably one with experience in historic buildings.

We know a guy who bought a fabulous old industrial building, which he redid himself. It could have been spectacular. He's a lawyer, not an architect.

I used to live in an old firehouse in NYC that had been converted into 3 loft apartments. Those were the days..... agree hire an architect that deals with renovation of old buildings so you create something amazing. You’ll likely need to do some repair work to the building and fit out the interior to make it into a spectacular home. Keep us posted on this thread while you work on it!

Of course, this firehouse is being converted to a vacation rental property, but it is done cleverly. You might enjoy watching. Personally, I don't mind the side entry and think it offers some nice privacy from everything being streetside. Get the right architect and listen to their suggestions and their responses to your ideas.
