Wow, well my original house burned down, and I had a drive way and a septic tank I had to put the new house in between. Building a one story wasn’t an option, even though I have plenty of land. If I had a choice I would have my old house back, guess that is just farts and unicorn way of thinking.

Your builder has the convenience of viewing this property in person so I am not sure what your intent was to post a single picture thinking you're going to get a solution from that on the internet?

You can't run away from my first post. It delivers understanding in short to the point words. They're ugly yes... but no more ugly than having to stare at these vents for the next 30 years.

Architects are notorious for designing gorgeous structures that under climate extremes aren't so gorgeous. Comfort is ugly. No one wants to look at it... but they expect to be comfortable. It works or doesn't work due to science, not magic.

So I've decided to describe this lapse of common sense as purple farts and unicorn confetti.

Are these supply vents or returns? The size and position would suggest they are returns. So if they are returns will the filters be installed behind the grilles? Are you going to have to stand on a ladder and reach over your built-ins to change the filters a few times a year? If that is the case I would want the a 4 inch filter on the main return at the furnace or air handler. This assumes getting into the attic will be easy.

Painting the grilles the same color of the wall makes them less noticeable. Another option is to have one large rectangular grille centered over the built-in. Whether there is one or two, I would want them centered over the built-in. Perhaps you could install molding around them to make it look decorative. Maybe some artificial pants on top of the built-in to block the view? You need to leave at least a foot of clearance to allow adequate air flow.
