Schluter kitchen backsplash question...

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi, we are planning a little DIY tiling project (backsplash behind range) and are hoping someone can help with these Schluter questions. The area being tiled is approximately 30" x 30" and will end just under the range hood (not installed yet). We are planning to use a Schiene Schluter on the vertical edges. Do we also need to Schulter where the top row of tile meets the range hood (horizontal edge)? If so, should we miter the corners of the Schluter? Or typically does the range hood just abutt the top row of tile, with no additional transition piece/trim?

Also, the Schiene does not appear to have an integrated spacer for the grout. Do we need to put in a spacer for the grout between tile and Schluter?

Our last question is what size Schluter is recommended? I've gotten three different answers to this question. The tile is 5" x 5" and 9mm thick (approximately 3/8"). Do we go with a 3/8, 7/16 or 1/2 Schluter?

Thanks very much in advance for any advice/experience/expertise on the Schluter!
