Decorating a narrow hallway

I was looking for opinions on how to bring life to my hallway. The hallway leads to bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It’s 23 feet long and 3 feet 3 inches wide.

I am planning on replacing carpet with wood flooring as well as adding a runner or 2.

Is the hallway too narrow for a gallery wall? What kind of light fixtures would help?

IMO no runner and as for a gallery wall I think you will need to go very thin frames and only on one side for sure I think a great picece of art really colorful on that end wall is where I would begin.

I once saw a narrow hallway that had wall sconces that sent light both up and down, which looked nicer than one overhead light. If I can find a picture, I’ll post It. Another possibility would be several recessed pin-spot lights in the ceiling, or one long snake of track lighting.

So your plans for the flooring are spot on, and I would paint the hallway white — like museum-wall white. You don’t say what the rest of your house is in terms of decor. I might put thinly framed black and white photos on the wall, or an assortment of mirrors like this, at various intervals

I would try to find these in pure white, but you get the idea

My problem with art on the walls in hallways is that no one has any space to look at it, and it is really just passing through anyway. And unless you have enough light, what’s the point. Framed wallpaper would be more fun.

Agree with no carpet on the floor —- very glossy finish on wood — might be best unless you find a rug you just adore.

(Speaking of wallpaper, another fun thing you could do is wallpaper the entire space, including the ceiling and the light switches, with a great fun wallpaper, and then paint each of the doors an appropriate color.)

There are a ton of ideas on Pinterest - Light paint and include door frames, fun pendant, runner, prints, molding and if area at far end is not a door, create a focal wall.

I think a combination of some of the suggestions would be great.

Wainscotting or board and batten to about eye level then on one side do sconces above and the other your gallery of pictures.

    Keep it light and bright.

I would go with something a less bulky than the picture but there's lots of options depending on the feel if the rest of the house.

I think adding another sconce at the end of the hall would go a long way. That, plus nice baseboards and new wood flooring. I would wait on getting any runners to see how it looks after those updates. Less is more!

If you can, place the art opposite a door opening so it can be enjoyed from the adjoining rooms. And definitely consider more than one light source.

Wood floor? Fabulous idea that will add value to your home! Next priority would be lighting. One dome light doesn't look sufficient for the space. I'd spend my budget on the bones of the space (doors, hardware, lighting, ceiling texture (?)), rather than dimensional decor, per se. Yes, you can add a piece of art at the end of the hallway but I wouldn't add any frames to the side walls. Too narrow a space to appreciate art, imo. Wallpaper or colour is a good idea as long as it relates to the rest of the space.

Does anyone have a link for the light fixture shown above, by Glo European Windows and Doors?

When you add runners, horizontal stripes may create the appearance of more width. I love these striped runners from ikea and they are super affordable:

Re light fixures- keeping them transparent may make the hall feel bigger than opaque fixtures would :

It is narrow and putting something on the side would make it seem more so. I would put something on the wall at the end. A nice piece of art would do. As far as lighting it would need to be flush mounted or recessed. The less you do to the space the larger it will appear.
