The layout is somewhat strange and hard to plan around, because nothing is symmetrical and space is limited on the right side, especially with those doors. Do they open to a closet or another room? If you plan to use molding to separate the wall, I'd be inclined to keep the pattern on the bottom half so the room doesn't feel top-heavy. Or, if you want the wallpaper up top, pair it with white wainscoting on the bottom portion.

The doors go to coat closet. Our whole house is angular, walls, ceilings, nothing is just square and I think that’s what makes this so hard for me. Thanks so much for your input Steph!

Will you take a picture looking into the house from the entry please? I’m wanting to see what’s on wall across from coat closet & what the room around that corner is. The light is ok but doesn’t best complement to the entry. Seems like a bolder statement needed with rug - I see it matches the carpet next to the hardwood flooring but it feels too skimpy. I’m wondering about a bigger round rung with more color in it. That’s why I’d like to see more of entry to get better feel of shape & borders of the space.

We live in Wisconsin and put that indoor outdoor rug there because of the snow. But I see what you mean. Also the gold in chandelier was more mat then I thought it would be. Could I make it shinier gold?

The columns are a creamy white color. Lightening is deceiving.

Something great about the curved sectional, and among all the lines you mentioned. I know snow too, and the mat is necessary - someone said that a medium-tone for rug would be better, yes. Replacing front door too... if the entry is basically separate, maybe replacing the closet doors too, in style with new front door.

Since you think you' d like zebra, try a zebra rug first. Maybe a runner up the stairs? The "little room next to the entry" appears to be set up for dining. Do you plan to use it that way?

I really like the idea of having a round rug and a small round table, maybe with a statue of some kind, positioned beneath the light fixture. It gives a more grand impression walking in. The issue I foresee is just finding a table small enough to allow the closet doors to open without getting in the way or the table being off center. You could replace the closet doors with another style (sliding or bifold) to alleviate some of that problem I suppose.

With enough 'going on', I'd buy a mat that blends with wood floor. Then another new rug could have some color/s blended in... grey paint color woven/ heathered in?

your foyer is not bad, just out of balance, especially the rugs. keep the black shoe-wiping rug and ditch the area rug.

get rid of the tray table (sorry but it looks like a TV tray), and put a small, pretty table off to the left -- where that vase is in the corner. if there's not room for both the vase and a table, then put the vase somewhere else.

update the handles on the front and closet doors.

last but not least, consider a new front door. but even if you don't do that, the other changes will help a lot.

Move the black chandelier in the little room into the entry and move the sphere in the entry into the little room with the turtle.

to add to my suggestions I made above. the round table is from target. you can find cute boot trays and nice, large all weather mats. they don't have to be totally utilitarian looking.

the main culprit is that faux victorian doors. man I hate those things. can you switch them out? you could do a double door, or single w/side lites. or, see if you can remove that center oval panel and just do a solid glass insert.

new doors, painted white. (why are your pics so crooked?? lol)

any any case, the door, the other double doors, and that oak color need to go. along w/the old gold hardware

If you hate it, redo the front door, and those other doors. (is that do a bedroom or something? could you do some french doors there?)

here's an idea for those double doors on the right. could you replace those w/a more modern panel door? or, look what they did here. black w/center glass, or you could do a mirror.

Thanks everybody for all your ideas! It’s not that I disliked the chandelier so much, it’s that Old fashioned door. It doesn’t matter what I put in there, I won’t be happy until it’s gone!

Can you move the chandelier to another room? I like it but not sure it fits the space. If you can't move it, I would at least raise it a bit.

I was thinking- as @User suggested - that your chandelier from the “little room” you called it (dining room I think) Would look great in your entry. Why not swap them? if you do change the doors to white, so much the better! Then put a round rug with color down & your entry has style & presence!

The front doors have to go. They just don't work. The closet doors should be painted white or a light color. All my eyes go to are those dark doors.

Of course, the exterior's design will matter as to front door options.

Entry doors don’t have to be same color & finish & hardware on both sides so there are options to make new doors work for inside / outside.

How contemporary is the exterior? I imagine not. I bet a door is waiting "for you." :)

yes, a new door will be the biggest change for this area. the rest of it will be easy / inexpensive styling.
