Vents: attics need to be ventilated to avoid problems like premature shingle wear or ice bridging during the winter. Ventilation essentially means giving the outside air a path to flow into the attic and back out.

Sheathing is the layer of plywood/OSB that lays atop the structure of your roof (trusses or rafters). If you're in an old home, you'll have boards. The shingles and other roofing materials nail into the sheathing.

Flashing is sheet metal strategically placed in corners and around chimneys to direct water where it should go.

Is your insurance company involved? Do you have an HOA? If yes, you probably need to get your choice approved. Are you in an area at risk for hail damage, wind or other haxards? Your City may have code requirements. What color is your house? You can definitely add value wth the right choice?ĺ
