The rug works, just make sure you select an appropriate size with at least the front feet of the sofa placed on top of the area rug.

You asked about chair - seems fine with slender striated pattern. Is the sofa a color like the chair?dusty soft teal?

With bright pillows on the sofa I think the colors will work. Esp since it goes with your new sofa

The rug works well with the chair, but I don't know about a teal sofa with it. The rug has such a small amount of teal that it may clash. Do you have a sample of the sofa fabric?

The rug is outstanding, I'm just not sure it is the right size.

If you can't get a larger size, then get a natural fiber rug that is large and put that underneath.

With regard to color, please get throw pillows that have the colors of navy, teal, pink, light blue, and orange in varying combinations and amounts in different pillows for your chairs and the new sofa and everything will go together wonderfully!

You can get a square velvet pillow that is 1/2 (a triangle) one color and the other half another, e.g. the light blue and the mauve that are in the rug, and do a welting that is the dark blue that is in the rug. Is that a teal? I can't tell. Whatever is that dark blue color. That would look good on the new sofa. You could do a throw pillow that is a print with some of your colors.

Here are some choices of velvets in upholstery weight that I found just noodling on the internet.

Just be careful, you don't want too many prints in your pillows, you want your rug to be the star.

Another tip- if you live in a decent-sized city, see if there is a wholesale district or a fabric or garment district or someplace you can get fabrics at a discount. You will save a whole lot of money that way on great fabric and also trims. You can also find pillow forms, etc, and if you don't sew, stores like that are the place to ask for referral for seamstresses to sew up your pillow covers as well.

Another great choice for fabric for pillow covers with delicious color options is shot silk. That is silk made with a different color thread for the warp and the weft. That gives it a marvelous iridescent quality. You can get it in a dupioni that has slubs like a raw sil or not. Here is an example that might go well with your colors, and again, try to get some remainder pieces. This is purple with orange.

Another thing you can do, if you live in or near a city with a sizable Indian population, you can look at the shops that sell saris. You can purchase used vintage silk sari borders (also spelled saree) to use to make pillow covers. You can also look online. The sari silk is often in the most vibrant colors, and you can get silk shot with intricate gold threading, and the best designs are on the sari borders. Often when the sari is old and worn, it is discarded or cut up, but the border at the end called the the pallu which has the most intricate design/border is still in great shape and is sold and can be used for many purposes such as a shawl or made into a throw pillow.

For saris I like Kanjeevarum or Benarsee silk the best, (there are many variations on the spellings) but of course they cost the most. Their silk is the heaviest, highest quality, and with the most gold threads in the most intricate designs. But of course, the most important thing is the condition. You can buy online, but you can't assess quality and condition online, and with something that has been worn and is vintage, that is important. Especially if you will be making it into a pillow cover that will be a mere inches from your guests eyes.
