It works well in giving you your desires in what appears to be a closet and a bench area.

The garage step location (which is something to consider in layout) doesn't appear to matter where along that wall it is as the garage depth is 24'.

PPF's solution allows you to turn the island and not have the whole household traipsing through the kitchen to get to and from the garage.
