What's the finish on the hardwood? Damp mop with maybe a tiny bit of Dawn or spray Windex.

Start by vacuuming the floor. Then follow-up with a dry microfiber mop to remove dust.

lastly use a damp wrung-out microfiber mop with a small amount of cleaner (neutral cleaner is best) to clean the floors. You want to use a minimum of water.

Micro-fibre mop heads. You want one that is for 'dry' cleaning (ie. dust mopping). And the other for damp mopping.

Damp mopping includes: water damp only. The mop head will be very lightly damp. So dry it will feel as if it isn't wet. It will feel cool to the touch. That's the only way you can tell it is wet.

Then there is the cleaning-damp mop: A pH neutral hardwood floor cleaner (from Armstrong, or Bruce, etc) will be fine. You will LIGHTLY MIST the mop-head (never ever apply liquids to hardwood floors - EVER). You will then mop the floor with this ever-so-slightly damp mop.

The 'cleaning' solution will be used 1-2 per MONTH. Nothing more! You will sweep on a daily/every-other-day basis. You will 'water mop' 1/week. The 'cleaning solution' will be used 12 - 24 times per YEAR. A bottle of hardwood cleaning solution should last 2 years....or so.
