vgkg, I did as you suggested, and apparently that Forum can't answer my questions either. I put them all in 1 gallon pots yesterday and guess I will do the same with the RC.

I am quite excited to see how these beans grow compared to the regular snap beans. I think I might need a really tall trellis.

I gave a partial answer to your questions on the Bean Forum. I would add though that you will need larger pots than 1 gallon for both of those beans - especially for Hija. I would also suggest that because pots tend to warm quickly & runner beans prefer cool temperatures, that the runner beans be grown in partial afternoon shade if possible.

Concur. These are lima beans (P lunatus) not snap beans(P .vulgaris). Large vigorous vines and long growing season. Never tried to container grow them, but they need more space in the field than pole snap beans.

Back when I tried container planting (anything) I would shade the container from direct sunlight by using a thin board or anything opaque to block the sun. Black plastic containers esp would get very hot in direct sun.

I only put the Hija in the 1 gallons until I decide what larger pots to put them in. The Corona I put into a huge pot right away. The Corona will be in afternoon shade. I haven't decided on where to put the Hija yet. I guess I will need to rig really strong trellises for all of them.

All the pots are sort of crammed together so the sun doesn't really get to shine on the pot itself. But it is a good point and I will watch out for that.
