Are you removing the 4" backsplash? If not, I wouldn't add another splash above it.

You have pattern in the counters and some with the grain in the cabinets. My own preference would be to keep the backsplash simple and use the lightest shade in the granite.

Thanks for your input. We were planning on removing the four inch piece before adding backsplash. Do you think everything won’t get washed out where I have light cabinets and light counters off I do a light backsplash?

I don't think it would look washed out. It would just be neutral and you can always add some accessories with a color you like. You could certainly go with a little darker splash. The key to me would be that it blends with the counters and isn't too busy. It should also work with the floor. That shouldn't be too hard since the floor appears to blend with your counters based on how it appears in the kitchen area of your photo. Looks like different flooring in the foreground of the second photo...?

Your countertop has slot of color variation. Keep the backsplash simple and neutral so it doesn’t compete with your countertop.

I wouldn't do a stone. I would pick a smoother taupe'ish/beige subway or picket tile.

I think subway tiles are done. here are my new favs but I like a little irregular & interesting.
