We are looking at updating the look in our home to one that is more continuous. We love the way hardwood look when taken throughout the whole house in every room but don't feel hardwood in the Kitchen and in powder room is practical, even through it looks great. We are looking at bringing a porcelain wood look tile in, laid in a herringbone or a chevron pattern (still discussing) and are deciding between trying to use a wood look that matches the hardwood (medium dark brown oak) or one that is wood look but contrasts with the hardwood (lighter wood with grey undertones). The Medium dark oak runs throughout my whole house so not looking to change that. The new wood look tile would be installed in our foyer (16 X10") and down the hall in the mudroom and powder room (8' X 6'). The kitchen will be done as part of later update but you can see the kitchen from the foyer but not the powder room. The kitchen is at the end of the hall that takes you to the front door and it is open concept with a large 8' opening to the Kitchen at the end of the hallway.

We have a few examples of the tile we like and they vary in size and finish. Our favourite is very rustic and textured with raised profile and tactic wood grain, smaller at 6 x 12". The other is larger 6 x 36" also rustic looking but flatter and smoother. It's rustic but more in look than in feel. Our hardwood is 3 1/4 plank hardwood.

We are concerned that bringing in a wood look tile that isn't a perfect match to the wood (impossible) and doesn't create enough of a contrast will make it look incongruent and won't work together.

Any recommendations on how to make to similar patterns (wood grain) work together if they share the same colour but not scale or if they share the same pattern but different in colour (lighter and greyer) and potentially different scale. I am showing the wood and tile that we currently. have and then the tile we are looking at with inspiration pictures that we being influenced by.

Any thoughts about high contrast vs matching colour to existing hardwood and going to two wood grain patterns that will sit side by side. Should we match the wood or try to contrast with the brown?

Smaller vintage look tile (Chevron). Trying to get it in the darker brown to better "match" the existing hardwood floor for seamless dark tone through foyer and powder room. (Kitchen would continue to be a lighter tile which we haven't determined yet). These tiles are smaller than our hardwood planks of wood.

Or a larger tile (herringbone).

Higher contract, tile had grey taupe and brown which are the colours in my home. this tile is larger than the wood planks of our flooring.
