Identifying 1920s Siding

Our house was built in 1925. We have a picture from our local archives from around 1936 which showed the house covered in, what I assumed was, asphalt faux brick siding. It's since been covered in aluminum. We started tearing out ugly/warped 1970s paneling paneling from our 3 season porch. To our surprise, the faux brick is wood all the way through! I didn't get a great picture of it but it's seemingly solid pieces of wood, milled to look like brick?
Has anyone ever seen this? Do you think it's the original siding? There's nothing behind it. I was just so sure the original siding would have been a normal lap siding (like everywhere else in our area).
