I think barn doors are a passing trend.

"Barn doors" to me means a sliding door -- it doesn't have to look rustic or country or barn-y, whatever you want to call it. There are some very contemporary/modern styles available, even glass interior sliders. I'd rather have a slider than a pocket door any day of the week.

I have a slider for my mudroom/laundry room and it is a great problem-solver, since the room is small and serves a dual purpose -- I need every inch of floorspace I can get. So, nothing wrong with a slider if that's what you want!

If you're asking about color or the look of a particular door choice you have in mind, pics would be helpful.

I love my barn door. It’s a feature of my house, and so practical.

Show some pics. There’s nothing wrong with just going with a color. You can always repaint later.

With a barn door, there's nothing irreversible. If you don't like one style of barn door, just hang a different one. I would make the door jambs the standard dimensions, though, in case someone wants to come by later and put in a boooooring regular door.

My barn door is the same finish as my floors: "natural".

Perosnally, I think it would be fun to have a bright colored door going to a work space like a laundry. Is the rest of your house modern? More traditional? I would take that into consideration.

Hi Tangerinedoor, thanks for your input. I love the natural look but wanted to have something different as you alluded to, I need a fun color for the workspace (laundry room). It's not installed yet but the vision is in my head and drawn on paper. My style is more on the modern style with my infusions of spicy detail.

One thing I LOVE about my barn door that you may not have imagined: it's easy to slide. Much easier than a regular sliding door.

PS There are a lotta Debbie Downers on this forum who turn up their noses at barn doors. Barns, too, evidently.
