Help with Unusual Gutter Elbow Solution

Hi, as seen in the attached images, I had to use Flex Downspout extension instead of a regular Elbow because the gutter downspout is not aligned correctly with the gutter opening, so it appears to me that this was an out of the box solution that the previous owners came up with.
The main problem now is that rain water leaks at the point where the flex extension attaches to the downspout.
Any idea on how to professionally fix this problem once and for all?
Thank you.

Someone hacked this up... Remove everything and get a pro to install this the right way unless you trying to do this DIY get the right materials.

Greg, I tried it the way around, it doesn't fit right on either sides, plus it looks ugly.

Stax, that's correct, the original purpose of this piece is different. So, I was wondering if there might be an alternative piece on the market that can solve this problem?!

GN, yes I'm looking for a DIY solution. Thank you.

Here is the parts list broken down, see what you need and you can find them at the local box store

Don't use that plastic garbage, get the aluminum gutter parts.

What you have wont work for long anyway. All those ridges in there will soon be clogged up with leaves. That is meant to go on the end of a downspout to carry water away from the house, and they work well for that. You can use elbows, just buy the right ones, and get them fitted in.

I don't think the elbows are going to work. Because the gutter doesn't extend far enough to be able to take it straight back to the corner of the house where the downspout is.

Possibly two elbows with a short piece of leader pipe in the middle may work.

Ci_lantro, I looked at the Amerimax Elbow at the store, the main problem, it's too small. I can't believe they don't make bigger one, usually they do with every other piece.

A professional fix would be remove and replace, after a site visit.

    Maybe try some flex wrap.

    Rats.

Wouldn't be ideal but you could use an adaptor from the gutter to the flex elbow & then use a smaller downspout. How effective? Would depend on how much roof is draining into that gutter. If only a short run, downsizing might work OK.

The elbow at the store was designed to be at the end, not the beginning.

I added more images to show clearly why regular elbows don't work, or as Ci_lantro described it, "the gutter doesn't extend far enough to be able to take it straight back to the corner of the house where the downspout is."

Millworkman, what do you mean by a short piece of pipe in the middle?

Re short piece......you are trying to work with pre fab plastic parts, maybe you think legos.

You or someone tried, it did not work.

The recommendations posted by Stax should be ignore, as you may have notice Stax deleted his response., this is a remove and replace for a professional fix.

There is no “short piece of pipe in the middle” that will be a professional fix.

Maybe Stax deletes his posts because they are wrong, but because they are also ignored.

adel, Stax’s first response addressed your issue, based on your reluctance to “professionally fix the problem”. I do not suggest following his suggestions. His suggestions are short lived.

Stax, maybe you need a nap lol

The only DIY fix that I can envision is to patch an extension onto the gutter so that it extends 10 more inches to the right so that the opening and the downspout line up and you can use the standard corner pieces to connect them up.

I'm not sure if that would look funny though.

I would call a gutter person to redo the entire gutter. It shouldnt be all that expensive, and get it to work properly.

Adel looking at the extra pictures you posted you would need this type of elbow to offset and after that the rest of them to line it up.

I mean it's all about making pieces work so you can connect them to line up with the straight run.

Bring that picture with you this way you can visualize the pieces you need, they not that expensive so get a few extra with different configurations and return what you not gonna use, and get a few shorter pieces 2' or whatever they got use it to make extensions and get a crimper tool most likely you will need it.

That said it might be cheaper to get someone to do this, it's pretty much a service call unless you bored and got nothing better to do, you can play with gutters just don't fall off the ladder.

    Good luck

So using the 'parts list' that you posted earlier, GN, are you envisioning this configuration?

No you don't have to go through all that I have to meet a customer when I get back I will show post a detail.

Similar to what you show, just different way. Leave the 1st 2-elbows with extension and offset to meet the leader.

Guys, I truly appreciate your engagement in this, and I know how difficult it can be to try to solve it on paper without being on site and seeing the real dimensions.

I tried to apply the two methods suggested and added images, plus another image that shows what I ended up doing, at least as a temporary solution.

What is at the bottom of this area? Maybe a rain chain could work.

This looks like it would fit inside the downspout rather than fit on the outside. Not 100% sure tho.

Kim, rain chain sounds like an interesting idea. Never heard of it before but really cool. Thanks!
