Help stage my deck!

last modified: 5 years ago

We're selling and our realtor says a deck must be in great shape otherwise buyers associate it with weekend work instead of relaxation.

This is an urban roof deck. New furniture is not in the budget. We're using everything except for lime green cushions. We want to distract from the vintage furniture vibe accent with pillows.

What color should we use for: Solid deck stain will that looks "sturdy" almost give it a composite look but not be overwhelming because it is 400 sq ft?

What color pillows to tie together new stain, black, and hunter green? Colors for new bench cushions? Will do lots of planting - mostly coleus - what shades?

Let's sell this house. Thanks!

Can't tell from the photos but does the deck really need to be stained? The matching deck and walls are very nice together. I wouldn't want the floor darker than the walls.

You might consider getting an outdoor rug to anchor the conversation area. This really dark blue one works well with your furniture.

I would do a rug that is really coloful and use those colors for the pillows . Not dure what you mean by vintage Then add some big planters filled to verflowing with colorful plants , it is hard to see the decking and how bad the finish is but a simple caot of deck stain will probablt not be abad idea.

As a home stager, I would just restrain the deck the color it is. Just make sure you get a solid stain vs. opaque. Area rug is a must. Go colorful or more classic. Get rid of the hunter green and the hammock. Keep the lime green and expand on that. Put the two chairs where the hammock is with a table in between or if you have a dining table put it there. Add your coleus with the addition of potato vine for that pop of lime green add lime green pillows and inexpensive potted palms. Your furniture is classic definitely not out of style.

Thanks for suggestions. The deck does need to be stained - yep, with opaque stain, if we want to give a no-maintenance vibe. The color has lightened with time but was Briarwood - which is the same stain that's on the door in the pic below.

I'm loving the cream of the brick with the Briarwood. Maybe I should go for earth tone pillows and wide striped rug to tie it all together? Beverly, I like the wide stripe of the rug you chose. It brings a contemporary vibe that my house needs!

agree with others to remove the hammock. maybe move some chairs to the other end creating a seating area.

tried to do a visual for you but SW doesn't have stain colors

Your green cushions or umbrella don't really go though but you did say you like stripes.

Maybe get a bamboo shade to hang off the end, covering up the view of your neighbors house and then hang some flowers on that wood structure on the end.

I Luke the idea of tieing it into your house colors with a small accent color. A couple of options here but you could also look for corals as the accent and I agree a seating area and some lanterns in the black or bronze for lighting around the deck will help created a nice look and ambiance

I'm with Nancy.....use that lime green to your advantage. That's a much more modern color scheme than what you have going now. It adds life to your deck.

And paint your door a blue to coordinate with the lime and navy/blue rug in Nancy's second photo. I love that rug. And use limelight coleus.
