My own experience is the fridge is best. They need to be kept cool and dry. For longer fridge storage, I put them in a single layer on paper towels and cover loosely (so some air can circulate). Just did that for Easter and they kept beautifully from late Wed. to Sun. morning.

If you're using them tomorrow, room temp is okay as long as it's cool. Fridge is always a safe bet.

I leave them out. Unless they are the locally grown berries - and those have a very short sales window - store bought strawberries are never properly ripe. They may look ripe but they are still hard when you slice them and lack flavor. Leaving them out at room temperature helps to encourage more ripening and better flavor, IMO.

It depends on your kitchen and the berries, as you can see from the previous posts. If they're going into a pie they should be fine either way, unless your kitchen is particularly warm. In my warm kitchen, they might shrivel a little, but they'd still be fine in pie.

Third option--do you have an insulated box, like a cooler, lunch box, styrofoam box? Make sure it's cool inside or put something cold in it to chill slightly, put some dry paper towels in the bottom, and leave the cover slightly ajar. Not open, but not sealed.

Unless you were going to make an uncooked pie? Just with goo or cream? For that, chilled might be best as you're going to chill the pie anyway, and want them as plump as possible. Don't put them in an open container in the fridge, because of the evaporator, though a covered clear plastic box with vent holes, rather than a basket, should be fine.

Thanks everyone. It will not be a baked pie, whole strawberries with a strawberry glaze. Wanted the berries to stay nice looking. Locally grown. I do live in FL now but with AC our house gets no warmer then 76, and cooler at night, however it’s the fridge! Thanks for all your responses.
