There is a 1 and a qtr gap between the fascia and the drip edge.

Fill the gap.

Your last picture shows an OSB/waferboard type of sheathing extending past the fascia board. I don't believe that this type of sheathing was available in 1957. So, it looks to me like somebody has re-sheathed the roof and left it long at the edges. If you added a wood spacer to take up the gap, what would the transition to the eves now look like?

I had a similar situation and solved it with "spacers". I primed and painted ground contact treated 2x6 blocks at hanger locations. They sell hangers for this but they are expensive. I think they are called parania hangers.
