We are in the middle of a major renovation and extension and have a design dilemma that we would love input on! We have a structural pillar that will need to stay in the house to support a large gable roof. The current design has the pillar (with a 2nd decorative pillar for balance) integrated into the island (see photo of plan and picture of a similar look attached). Our build believes that we should separate the pillars from the island (see the plan that I've roughtly adjusted at bottom) . Input/thoughts much appreciated! Thank you
