Help- Transitioning from duct board trunk

Hello,

I currently have a duct board trunk from my air handler in the attic to a supply plenum in my kitchen which services the entire first floor. The trunk travels through a closet on the second floor.

I need to relocate the plenum on my first floor which means moving the trunk over a foot in the closet space. I plan to do this by transitioning to an offset in the closet. Some photos below.

Question- what is the best way to transition from my duct board trunk to a metal offset? The metal offset will be insulated and drop down through the floor to a new metal plenum.

Would inserting the metal offset inside the duct board and then using sheet metal screws with big washers work? The washers would insure the screws don’t go through the duct board.

Any thoughts on this? I’ve searched for days and cannot any advise on connecting duct board truck to a metal trunk. Thanks.

Isn't that a metal to fiberglass duct board transition that you have now? You could disassemble and see how it was done. Or drop by a HVAC shop and ask a pro? Measure before you go & take the new duct piece with you in case you need additional pieces.

I do not have a duct board to metal transition piece, I’m not sure what you are referring to. The photo is an example of a metal offset that I need to have made.

What I’m looking for is how people typically transition from one to the other. I plan to cut my current duct board trunk above where my blue drawing begins.

I thought the piece coming thru the floor was metal & that there was a transition to duct board at the point about 18" above the floor where what looks like a metal strap is nailed to the wall. I also thought that you already had the offset piece in your possession.

But I guess not. I was wrong on both points.

Why mess with the duct board? I would replace with all metal. Sturdier and easier to clean. Makes for an easier job using all one material. Would need to be insulated at least in the attic but that's not a big deal.
