Kitchen Aid mixer storage

We’re building and I’m thinking of creating a baking station in my walk in pantry so I can leave my mixer in there. Has anyone else done this? Just wondered if it was practical? My pantry will be directly across a hallway from the kitchen island

Is it a butler pantry with counters? Can you add a mixer lift?

If so maybe, but it sounds out of the way and potentially messy.

By “baking station”, do you mean just a place to store baking supplies? Or, do you intend to do all of your baking in the pantry?

If it’s the former, sounds quite inconvenient to me. I would not want to be carrying a stand mixer, even a short distance. And, why wouldn’t you want all of your ingredients, measuring cups and spoons, spatulas, etc, at arm’s reach, above and below the baking counter?

We put in a baking center in between the ovens and the fridge. The mixer is on a lift, in the lower left cabinet, a pullout garbage is below the prep (bar size) sink. All spatulas, measuring spoons, and measuring cups are in the top drawer. Bowls, and other large items, are below. Spices, sugar, flour, flavorings, and other ingredients, are in upper cabs. Baking sheets and trays, are above the ovens. Click to expand

I think you need to go through in your mind how you bake now and how setting up in the pantry would change that. Things like how does a sink come into play for you? If you don't have a sink in the pantry, would that be an issue? Do you use a dishwasher? Do you have other people that bake with you at times that could make a difference of having everything in the pantry instead. Part of the joy of baking for me is to be able to enjoy being in my kitchen. I know I wouldn't want to be in a closet! But that's me and you may feel different and having a baking station may be more important to you and that is the only place it can be done. Only you know.

I don't know how large your pantry is but another idea might be to put the mixer on a rolling cart that you can just roll into the kitchen.

We weren't installing a new kitchen, but bought a house with one that had been redone shortly before it was listed for sale. My KA mixer is about 1/16th" too tall to slide back under an upper cabinet and no mixer lift in the kitchen. Way, way too heavy to be carrying it around. It lives on an Ikea butchers block cart in the pantry, rolls easily into one of two places I can use it in the kitchen. The cart has locking castors so it doesn't move around on its own. It wouldn't have been my first choice but works out well these last few years, even has shelves for my baking sheets....

I had the same dilemma with my KA mixer. I didn’t want to have to carry it and I didn’t want to leave it in the counter because it collected dust and I also like to avoid counter clutter to the extent possible.

I jad the cabinet next to the counter constructed with a side door so I could slide my mixer out the side. No lifting. The oictures shows the side door. The proportions in the picture are off as the side door looks shorter than in real life. The side doors are miniatures of the cabinet doors. I had thought to use a door that opened up and went into the cabinet but as it turned out, I didn’t have enough head room but I am extremely pleased with both the aesthetics and functionality.

FWIW, I have read very mixed reviews on mixer lifts.

I think it depends upon how often you will be using the mixer. I have a closet across from my pantry (right off to the side of my kitchen) that I have all my baking supplies along with my mixer and food processors. This works for me. If you use the mixer often or if you think this would be inconvenient, then i would suggest a lift or appliance garage or similar within your kitchen space.

sorell interiors do you use your mixer in your closet? That was my thought but in my pantry . I wouldnt be in the pantry every time I baked, just when I mixed things with the mixer which wouldn’t be all that often. Also considering making the shelf lower so I could comfortably roll out pie crust

I have had a KA mixer for just a few months, and we use it for a lot more than baking! Hubby loves it for making mashed potatoes; our son has an ice cream attachment that he share with us.

When I bake, I clean up as I go - I like to use the mixer near the sink and DW for that reason.

I just got a cover for my mixer - no more dust! Mine stays on the counter, in a corner, out of the way.

nchamber I have to take my mixer out of the closet and bring it to my counter which is not that far (about 8 steps) and it works for me. If you are intending to use it while in the pantry (if that is what you mean), that would be up to you. In my opinion it would seem like more of a bother that way for clean up and bringing all of the ingredients away from the kitchen counter. So important to see what works better for you.

I think it depends on how often you use the mixer and what you plan in the baking staion. I like a baking are awith a counter that is lower for rolling out pastry and knedaing bread . I also like it to have all my ingredients in deep darwers and all the pans in cabinets for ease of use. I think I would like a bit more info as to the size of the pantry and whgat you plan in it for use. BTW a butlers pantry is a whole other thing and in most cases now just a walk in pantry which IMO is a waste of space unless you use it for more than storage . I would go for the baking staion in the pantry if you have the space .

I have a ton of attachments for mine, so it stays out on the counter since we use it so frequently. Only that and the coffee maker stay out.
